After being gassed, prisoner's bodies were burned in ovens and their remains reduced to ash. More than one million prisoners, mostly Jews, were murdered in Auschwitz during the World War II. The Sixtieth Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp will be commemorated at the Auschwitz II Birkenau site on January 27, 2005.
